Why Doxa?
We chose the name Doxa for the band and for this music project simply because it's a cool sounding word. No, just kidding, doxa is actually an old Greek word defined as glory, fame, or honor. And as every person involved with this project will tell you, we are all about giving glory, fame and honor to our King Jesus Christ. While the music we make does do exactly that, it does not end there. We want to give glory to God in everything we do. We're certainly not perfect people, but we're always checking ourselves to make sure that what we do does, in some way, glorify God.
We could have simply gone with The Matt Tipton Band, but again, we want glory pointing to God, not towards any one of us. Plus doxa is such an unusual word that it gives us a great chance to describe the meaning behind it to anyone who asks. The word doxa also serves as a call to all who hear it to strive to honor and glorify God with everything they do as well as we see in Scripture repeatedly:
Psalm 34:3 - Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.
Psalm 63:3 - Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
Psalm 69:30 - I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 86:12 - I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
I Cor. 10:31 - So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Rev. 5:11-14 - Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang:
"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" The four living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Our Beginning...If you had asked any of us 10 years ago if we thought wed be playing in a band and doing what were doing in Gods Kingdom today, none of us would have said, "Well yes, of course." All of our backgrounds are different, and we all came to the place in our lives where we wanted to devote ourselves and our music to God differently, but Gods sovereign thread was weaving through each of our lives before we even knew it.Most of us met while still students in high school at our church in Houston, TX. However, at that point over half us did not even play an instrument and some of us were . . . how do you say . . . not exactly cool with the idea of God being totally in charge of our lives. At that point, our student ministry met in a YMCA gym so we had to set up and tear everything down every weekend. There were times where we saw that as an inconvenience and annoying, but it's amazing how God would later use that as he used each of us to build his kingdom. Over the next seven years, God made himself known to each of us in very personal ways as Father, Protector, Provider, King and Savior; as loving, never changing, and sovereign. During that time, God began giving us opportunities to play together and grow as a band, at least for those of us that were living in Houston. Although we were not always completely aware of it, God had been all along preparing us for the next big step we would take, and after those seven years God brought to a head what he had planned for us.Between April and November of 2005 each of us moved up to Seattle to help plant a church, The Journey, which is continuing to grow in the suburbs north of Seattle. We moved up here, leaving our comfort zones, friends, and families, for the glory of God. We had no clue what would happen after we got here, but followed God in obedience. Since we came up in stages we were not even sure if all of us would end up here. It just so happens that God did bring us all to Seattle where we met the few remaining pieces necessary to complete both the band and this project. We say that Doxa is more than just a band because our desire is that it serves as a springboard to launch other Christian artists who desire to glorify God with their entire lives, including music. The call to glorify God is worldwide and so while our first CD is a certain style and has two main songwriters on it, we long to see many more songwriters and musicians with different styles come along and glorify God with us in every facet of life.

You Are The Center - Matt Tipton
You are the center, the all glorifying theme
and the end of my life. You're the end of my life. (Repeat)
You're the ground of my hope Lord,
the unfailing spring of my joy, and I gaze upon my
King of grace and never look away.
For the glory of the Lord is my light
For the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ
For the glory of the Lord we will shine
Jesus, Jesus, Glory to our Lord and King
Jesus, Jesus, you are
(repeat 3 times)
You're the end of my life, you're the end of my life.
So We Carry On - Matt Tipton
This old and worn out cross I carry every day
I hold it front of me to remind me of the price you paid
It's crimson stains they tell of your pain, despising the shame
By the will of God and the offering of Jesus Christ
We may share with Him and enter in this Holy place
So we carry on, so we carry on
For He will make us strong, He will make us strong
This old and worn out cross I carry everyday
I feel it's weight on my shoulders, but you will be my strength
Your love endured, so we could be pure and stand before you Lord
His joy, His strength, His power,
Is now our joy, is now our strength,
Is now our power to carry on everyday
Everlasting - Matt Tipton
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice, rejoice,
Come declare the wondrous works of our Lord's hands, his hands
From everlasting to everlasting you shall reign forever more,
We believe it Lord! We believe it Lord!
We declare that Jesus is our Lord
For we marvel at the glory of your Son, your Son
We are free so we sing to Lord who has redeemed
You Have Called Us - Matt Tipton
You have spoken out, spoken out
to your children Oh God
Having all of our attention turned to you
God of Jacob and Elijah and all the prophets of old
Every martyr and the saints who've gone before
You have called us, You have called us out
Son of The Most High, Fully God and Fully man
Living by the will the of Your own Father's mighty hand
Setting free the world that lies enslaved to it's own sin
And by this grace you've given us we raise our voice again
To be sons of God, and children of love, who respond to your call,
And lift your name up, lift your name up
Sons of God, and children of love, who respond to his call
Lift His name up, lift His name up high (repeat)
Delight - Matt Tipton
The love you lavish on me is the greatest mystery
and for all eternity we have
No more condemnation by the world's unforgiving lies for sin no longer reigns in our lives, In our lives
Delight for the LORD has come down,
come down so in all of Him
Delight, oh delight oh delight
And the truth we hold it dear to our hearts and lives we fear
Oh for he is good he is good
He delivers us from the wrath of God that is to come,
but to know the war is already won...
For Joy - Matt Tipton
So bright, the light around the world it shines
and weve all become so alive in the light of you glory
With joy, oh how we sing unto the Lord with Joy,
and from our hearts we gladly bare the light of your glory
Grace from our Lord we have the promise of the greatest reward
and from the nations...
You are praised, Youre the highest all around
We praise your Name,
we come with gladness we sing aloud your praise
Your Love, I see it everywhere along this earth,
and were surrounded with the beauty of you with your beauty
From Mountains to sunlight gleaming over ocean waters,
oh behold the great wonders of our King
Brought To New Life - Tyson Hounsel
Brought to new life in my waking hour
Washed by the blood as He called me out
Once dead in my sin my eyes were opened to behold Him
Now alive in His love the Beginning and the End
His strength can be found in my innermost
My soul is affirmed by the Holy Ghost
The fullness of God will be known if we walk the narrow road
And we do all things through Him Christ our Savior Lord alone
Give us right pure hearts to declare Your Name as holy
Lead our daily lives to tell of Your love and Gospel story
Oh how many days have I gone astray
And served my idols of empty gain
But Jesus in mercy and might shines into darkness with Heavens light
So we can kneel in faith with our whole heart, soul, and mind
May Your children come to Your gracious table
To remember the wage of our redemption
We abide in You Lord, Your Truth and Word
How we long for home and Your return
We have hope in a Savior that bore the cross and chose to die
To conquer sin and death and be raised at His Fathers side
Praise To The Lord The Almighty - Hymn
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near
Praise Him in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, Who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth
Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been
Granted in what He ordaineth
Praise to the Lord, Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee
Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him
Let the Amen sound from His people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him
Word Of God - Matt Tipton
I come believing you are truth, I worship no other but you
You are above all powers, You are above all powers
I delight in the word of God, I abide in The word of God
My LIGHT is the Word of God, I'll never have to be afraid again
I live by every word it says
I find my strength in all your promises
You've conquered sin and death for good
Our debt to you is paid in full by Jesus' Blood
And your resurrection
With this grace in our hearts
We give you praise we give you praise
Let the word dwell within so we never again
Well never be afraid again
Be Thou My Vision - Hymn
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
Be Thou my wisdom, be Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, I thy true child
Thou in me dwelling, by love reconciled
Riches I need not, nor earth's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance now and always
Thou and thou on-ly, first in my hear
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art
High King of heaven my victory won
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's sun
Heart of my heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, O ruler of all
Doxology - Hymn
Lord I my vows to Thee renew
Disperse my sins as morning dew
Guard my first springs of thought and will
And with Thyself my spirit fill
Direct, control, suggest, this day,
All I design, or do, or say,
That all my powers, with all their might,
In Thy sole glory may unite
Amen (4xs)
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
The Riches Of His Grace - Matt Tipton
The Holy Curse against all sin
Was fully absorbed only by one man,
Whose hands are gripped with hope and freedom
To give to his chosen who bow and believe him
Only a divine sacrifice
Could pay for the debt in our lives could pay for the debt in our lives,
(our lives)
Oh the riches of His Grace
Riches of His Grace
Everlasting
Word of God
Brought to New Life
For Joy
Delight
Praise to the Lord

October 23-24, 2009 - Finishing the Master
These next couple days we(Brad, Adam, Tyson, and Matt) will be crammed into a small studion in Mill Creek, WA finishing an amazing album that has literally taken a year and a half to complete. Our hopes are that by listening to this album you will be immersed into the passion we have for our king Jesus and His supremacy in all things. He is the purpose for this insignifacnt album and our intentions are really only that he will be made more famous. We encourage you to get this album and learn for yourself that God can use literally anybody for his glory. We are part of a thriving church plant in Mill Creek called "The Journey Church" (click here). We encourage you to find out more about his church and the things God is doing in and out of it's walls. We actually don't even have walls. We meet in a Cafeteria each week. God' s hand is all over this church and we want you to be a part of it!
November 21st, 2009 - CD Release Party
The projected release date for the album is mid-November which is when the album will be available for digital download online. A CD release party is expected November 21st at Martha Lake Baptist Church. More details (click here)
Brought to New Life, as a whole, truly shows you the breadth and depth to which the authors of the songs have grown just over the last year or two as God has blessed and broken them and all while continuing to show His faithfulness. So much so, that words alone could not convey the beauty of what they have seen and experienced in God. Adding music to their words is a great start, but as you'll hear in the songs themselves, the invitation is there to experience New Life in God for yourself.
